Perimeter Center is recognized as one of the first large-scale suburban office parks in the United States. Due to its development of Perimeter Center, Taylor & Mathis is recognized as a pioneer in the concept of developing office buildings in wooded, campus - like settings near upscale residential neighborhoods, and controlling the development process through careful zoning, master planning and architectural controls. From 1970 - 1989, Taylor & Mathis, along with financial partner MetLife, developed 32 office buildings at Perimeter Center totaling 3,456,600 square feet, plus a 61,800 - square - foot specialty retail center called Park Place. Taylor & Mathis also managed and leased the project for over 25 years before selling the project in 1996 to Beacon Properties, a Boston-based REIT. The project was subsequently purchased by the current owner, Equity Office Properties. |
